Yes, anchors can do that. They are harder tro work with in Notes than they should be, but still I have created several databases which use this approach. Here are two articles I have written which give some hints about how to use anchors more effectively: Anchors Aweigh and Rich Text 101 - Doclinks. I hope they help, but feel free to ask if you have questions.
